A Small Change with a Big Governance Impact
Microsoft is moving the storage of Copilot Pages
If you haven’t seen this in the Message Center, you may want to be aware of it:
New Copilot Pages will be stored in OneDrive for Business
Look, I’ve spent a lot of words writing about the need to consider how you'd handle the eDiscovery workflow if you needed to collect Copilot Pages or Copilot Notebook artifacts, so I’m pretty happy they are moving newly created ones to OneDrive.
I’m even happy that this new announcement perfectly illustrates one of the points I’m planning to make during my presentation at the ILTA conference about Loop and the need to watch for changes when it comes to governance.
So kudos to Microsoft for recognizing the difficulty of governing pages that sit inside a SharePoint embedded container.
On the other hand, Copilot Pages and Notebooks are now part of OneDrive and will default to whatever your policies are within that container.
Those policies might be significantly different than the ones you’d like to apply to Copilot Pages, so it’s time for many of us to get to work on identifying what this change means in terms of retention, eDiscovery, Records Management, Security, etc.
It also means it just got a lot easier for those Copilot Pages to be shared externally as Loop pages, thanks to that recent change.
