Bonus M365 News for October
The schedule gets messy when we have 5 Mondays. Plus a Halloween costume!
The monthly schedule for this newsletter that I had planned seemed pretty simple. Each month subscribers would get 3 issues, and I would get a week off. Every other week there’d be an in-depth look at something related to Purview eDiscovery for paid subscribers, in between those weeks I’d do one news round-up edition that was free to everyone, and I’d skip a week once a month to give myself a break and get other things done.
And then October went and had 5 Mondays. And while this would usually be time for an M365 news roundup, there’s already been an October edition, and 4 weeks from now will still be November.
So, here’s a bonus October edition.
I’ve recently seen a couple of things that I’m curious to see how they work from an eDiscovery point of view:
Microsoft Teams to Let Users Forward Chat Messages - what kind of metadata might be available, or will it just copy the text into a new message?
Discover the latest features and updates of Workflows within Microsoft Teams - any time there is automation involved in creating content, I get curious about whether we can tell it was automated during review.
Microsoft 365 Insiders can try out putting in Planner board links in Microsoft Loop - the question I have here, as with many things Loop related is if the Loop file is in my collection does the Planner information show up in the content or is it more like display of data that only truly exists in Planner? The addition of Personal Plans that we talked about earlier this month and is rolling out now adds an additional wrinkle around Planner and eDiscovery going forward too.
Microsoft Lists Task Manager Is Now Available for Everyone - as if Tasks, To-do, and Planner didn’t provide enough options, not to mention Azure DevOps, Project, and other tools, now there is List Manager and the same questions about what these lists look like in eDiscovery.
I’m sure I’ll have lots more to say about these in the coming weeks.

Last, but not least. Have you tried out the new Teams app? I’ve been using it on my MacBook a bunch and just started using it a bit on Windows. It seems much snappier and seems to be using less memory, but I’ve not done a lot of meetings with it yet. What are your thoughts? Is the meeting experience much improved?
Until next week, when I’ll have some more eDiscovery test results for us to dig into, Happy Halloween!
